Crystal Castles + Robert Smith = perfection!

Hello again..before my new TOP 20 I just like to share with you one of the greatest things that happened to indie music scene in a while (maybe too dramatic, but wth:), a collaboration between Crystal Castles and Robert Smith from The Cure. They did an alternate version of Not In Love. Robert's voice is fitting perfectly to this song and I really hope he will continue to participate in projects like this. The song will be released officially on 06/12/2010 as a digital release.

No more talk, enjoy the song.

Hello again / Arcade Fire / RIP Manifesto

I made it a little sooner this time :) I've made new header, hope you like it..anyway, there is a brand new Arcade Fire material out there and it is awesome..there are two songs: The Suburbs and Month Of May..first one is classic Arcade Fire uplifting mid-tempo song with lots of keyboards, while the other one is fast paced, almost in post-punk style, with some great drumming and catchy chorus..I will not provide you with the link 'cos you never know what will happen, but I'm sure you'll manage to listen to it somehow;))
New National album is also out there but enough is been said about that already, they are becoming almost famous now:)..also check new Wolf Parade album called Expo 86..great stuff..

One more thing:

RIP! : A Remix Manifesto

I saw this documentary at local art cinema a week ago and I recommend it to everyone..it makes some good points about remixing and sampling, artist rights, and also about modern music culture in general..while I don't agree with every thought, the documentary itself is sure worth watching and thinking over it..

That will be all for now..cheers:))

List is quite personal, so perhaps not everyone will agree with me, but I hope each of you will find something worth listening;) Also, list is in random order, kinda like train-of-thought, so don't argue about who's first or last. Let me know if you like my choice...

Fever Ray - Fever Ray

I got back to the minimalism for a while..let me know if you prefer this look;)

Anyway..The Knife's female vocalist has recorded her solo album. This is a very good news, because we all know how talented and skillful is this woman.

The woman I'm talking about is Karin Dreijer Andersson , and the project and album are named Fever Ray.

Fever Ray is, much like every great solo project, a bit different from The Knife recordings. This album is personal, quiet and very enjoyable I must say. Karin's vocals are soft, but recognizable. They reminded me of Bjork in some songs...in a good way. From the first magnificent track If I Had A Heart to the last one we can enjoy in wonderful minimal arrangements and quiet story that takes place between Karin and male vocalist.

To make it easier for you: The comparison between this album and The Knife albums is like comparing last Golfrapp record with their earlier work.

This album takes a lot of listening to get into, but it rewards the listener with unique ambiental sound. So we can just relax all our senses and feel this amazing piece of indie music.

Fever Ray got 9/10!

White Lies - To Lose My Life

I'm back! :) There is a lot of going on these days around new british band White Lies. I hope this isn't another band glorified by british media without any reason...so far so good:) Their first album To Lose My Life is out and it's quite good. Their music is typically british new wave with influences from Joy Division, but they added lots of rythm, so on this album they sound lot like Interpol and Editors. If you like those two bands you won't be dissapointed.
First single and opening track '' Death '' shows us what we can expect from this band: nice beat, atmospherical vocals and catchy lyrics. Second single and title track '' To Lose my Life '' takes us fully into the White Lies story and gives us something we''ll enjoy listen and dance to.
This band doesn't give anything new to the scene, but they do very well in creating that typical new wave/post-punk atmosphere, and they are easy to listen to. So..nothing original, but nice start, I'm looking forward to the next album. Interpol fans: this is definitely must have new album:)

White Lies got 7/10 !

News: Best of 2008 - Last.fm

One and only Last.fm has announced Top 10 artists, albums and tracks of 2008. This top list is based on scrobbling or in other words on tracks that people had actually listen, so I believe this is more relevant than Bilboard or some other commercial top list because it shows both albums that have been bought and those that have been downloaded. It is interesting to see what people had been listening the most in past year (besides complete domination of Coldplay in tracks:)) Check it here: LAST FM - Best Of 2008

TV On The Radio - Dear Science

tv on the radio dear science

I know it's a bit late but it would be a shame not to mention this great album. TV On The Radio is in a way similar to Bloc Party, but their music is more complex and experimental. Every song is different in a way, they are combining electronic beats with guitar riffs, and perhaps even some jazz/acid jazz elements in their songs. It takes some time to grow on you, but you'll feel the quality right away:) Some of the songs like Halfway home, Red Dress and Shout me out will definetly make you dance:) Check this album and enjoy it!

p.s. if you haven't got it yet, and you like this one, listen to their previous album Return To Cookie Mountain, it is also a great album..

This one got 9.1/10;)

Clap your brains off!!

Check this crazy indie video I found;) Great mix of music and vision..to me it looks like proffesional work..I've seen it several times because it's kind of motivational before going to party:)) Enjoy!

p.s. Just to let you know, I've started working as a DJ in a local bar..indie music of course:) so far there are not so many people attending but wish me luck..

New album from Bloc Party!!

bloc party intimacy

bloc party

Big news: Bloc Party released their third album online and it's called Intimacy!

Album is not yet released in old-fashioned way, but it is available;) so I listened to it, and decided to share my impressions with you:)

This album is slightly different form the other two. It is, as the title is saying, more intimate and more melodic. Lyrics are very personal..about past relationships, ex girlfriends, dead girlfriends etc. :)

I must say that I didn't like the material at first hearing, but it takes some time and then it definitely grow on you. My personal favorites on album are Zephyrus, Biko, and Talons. Zephyrus has a minimal beat and a heavenly female vocals in backgrounds, and Biko has great lyrics ( if I could eat your cancer I would, but I can't..) Talons is just so powerful and, along with Mercury and Trojan Horse, best for the dance floor.(You can see the video for Talons on the video bar-to the right)Oh yes, I forgot: One Month Of is a blast, you'll be blown away;)

So, like I said, this album is quite different, some of you will like it, some of you will not. Definitely worth downloading:) Enjoy!

Intimacy has earned 8.5/10!

Top 10 band names (or how to write a poem on a cd cover)

And now something just for fun:)

It seems to me that it's a growing trend these days to give band a name that is hard to pronouce and also have a secret message in it that only the band understands..
Some of them are hillarious, some are mind blowing, and some of them are just dumb:))

So, when I was listening new cd from the winner of list that is below the article( I seriously doubt that I wrote previous sentence correctly, but anything is possible:))I decided to create a list of such band names..hope you'll find some of them interesting;)

p.s. actually some of these bands on the list are actually pretty good, no matter what they are calling themselves, so check them out...no.1 is my reccomendation, they have their first cd out now..if anyone is intersted write in comment I'll provide a link..read the list:

10. The Sound Of Animals Fighting

6. Why?

5. Pipes You See, Pipes You Don't

4. I Was A Teenage Satan Worshiper

if you have other suggestions, write in comment we'll make another list:))

The National live!!

I was on concert in Zagreb 23.11.2007. There were 1000 people on concert wich was more attendance than on any show of entire tour..it was magnificent, one of the best concerts in my life..go and see them if you have the chance..you won't regret it..before that check this awesome video:

Arcade Fire interactive video

Well known indie band from Canada has created an interactive video for their song Neon Bible. It's fantastic, you can actually move the singers hands and some more stuff..very impressive..check it out:

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

DeVotchKa - How It Ends

I want to share this with you from the beggining..perhaps now is the right time...maybe the most emotional and beautiful and also most depressing indie song I've heard..band is called DeVotchKa and they are playing indie rock music with elements of russian and other eastern european folk songs..they made a sountrack for beautiful movie ''Little Miss Sunshine''..this song hasn't got an official video so I tried to pick best fan made video to present you this song..if you don't like video games forget about the video just listen to the song:))..and enjoy the experience..DeVotchKa...

live footage of this amazing band will appear here on your request..use the shoutbox;)

Editors-The Racing Rats Video

brilliant new video from editors..piece of art..enjoy..

Band Of Hoses - Cease To Begin

Brand new Band Of Horses album is just great..beautiful, chill-out songs that make me happy in a melancholic way:)..if you want more serious review check here :) Or just give this album a chance and you'll not regret it...

Let's say 8/10!

more about the band here ....

Editors - An End Has A Start

I got this album from a friend two weeks ago, but I haven't listen to it until now. Editors are indie rock bend with male vocal who is very much like vocal of Interpol which is why some people think of Editors as a copy of Interpol. But..that is not my opinion. I must say that I like this band, and although they are not exactly bringing something new, their songs are easy to listen and enjoy...my favourite is Smokers outside the hospital door( btw great title). Will you learn to love Editors it is up to you, but they certanly deserve a try..I'll look for the first album too..

They earned 6.5/10 !

...more about Editors here

...Smokers.. video:

great video: Bat For Lashes - What A Girl To Do..review soon:)
